SEATTLE, June 13, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Quorum Review IRB is proud to announce it has appointed Bruce Busby, CHP, RSM, as its Biosafety and Radiation Officer. This demonstrates ongoing commitment to support research at individual institutions and provide industry-leading institutional customer service and responsive IRB review services.
Research involving the use of biologics, specifically research involving recombinant DNA (rDNA) and synthetic rDNA is greatly expanding. Quorum partners with research institutions to provide the same customer-focused service for IBC review as they currently receive for IRB services.
"I am pleased to partner with Quorum to serve as Biosafety and Radiation Officer," says Bruce Busby. "The rapid advancements in research, specifically the increased use of biologics, and updates to the Common Rule requiring centralization of multi-site research, are driving the need for collaborating with Quorum for IBC and IRB oversight of research."
The NIH considers IBCs the cornerstone of institutional oversight of rDNA research. Quorum collaborates with institutions to ensure compliance with NIH guidelines.
"We are thrilled that Bruce will be on board in partnership of Quorum biosafety review," says Cami Gearhart, CEO of Quorum. "In addition, Bruce will help advance scientific research by providing expertise to clients on biosafety topics through our Kinetiq consulting division."
Bruce is already a member of the Kinetiq Independent Consultant Network. He brings over 30 years of experience in biosafety, radiation safety, health physics, vivarium safety, research administration, and general safety expertise to Quorum.
Bruce will continue in his role as the Biosafety Officer and Radiation Safety Officer for Fred Hutch in Seattle. Home to three Nobel laureates and interdisciplinary teams of world-renowned scientists, the Hutch seeks new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer, HIV/AIDS and other diseases.
He frequently speaks on biosafety and radiation security topics for NWABR and is a member of PRIM&R. Bruce is the former associate editor of Health Physics and is special topics editor for Operational Radiation Safety.
As a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former radioactive materials inspector for the state of Washington, Bruce has been directly involved in the administration of biosafety in research at all levels and is sensitive to the administrative responsibilities placed on both the researcher and the institution.
