QuintessenceLabs Signs up as Sponsor for FIPS 140-2 Validation of OpenSSL
QuintessenceLabs, the leader in quantum communications technology for networking, communications, national security and defense, has committed to sponsor a new platform for the upcoming FIPS 140-2 OpenSSL FIPS Object Module v2.0 validation.
CANBERRA, Australia, March 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- QuintessenceLabs, the leader in ultrasecure quantum communications, has signed a sponsorship contract with the OpenSSL Software Foundation to support the validation of the Linux 64-bit, Intel x86_64 CPU platform for the upcoming FIPS 140-2 OpenSSL FIPS Object Module v2.0 validation.
The objective of the sponsorship is to incorporate a new operational test platform for Linux 64-bit on Intel x86_64 CPU in an ongoing FIPS 140-2 validation effort, so that at final award the formal Cryptographic Module Validation Program ("CMVP") validation will explicitly include the platform. The validated OpenSSL cryptographic module will be used in QuintessenceLabs' random number generator, key management and link encryption products.
"By sponsoring the ongoing validation, QuintessenceLabs will have access to a FIPS 140-2 validated cryptographic module more quickly and with lower risk than an independent validation effort," said John Leiseboer, CTO of QuintessenceLabs. "Additionally, in the true spirit of open source development, the validated module will be freely available for others to use. A validated cryptographic module provides confidence to vendors and customers alike that the cryptographic implementation is correct, as verified by an independent test facility."
Commenting on the sponsorship, Steve Marquess, President of the OpenSSL Software Foundation said, "Thanks to the support of vendors like QuintessenceLabs the OpenSSL project is able to provide new capabilities of value to the entire user community. QuintessenceLabs can also be assured that the upcoming OpenSSL FIPS Object Module v2.0 will fully support their products."
