A seasoned professional with a deep knowledge of political and legislative strategy and a history of successful coalition building and program implementations, Peterson will lead Questar's efforts to build relationships with government constituents and help the company position itself to deliver upon states' educational assessment needs.
"With the passage of the Every Child Succeeds Act, each state will gain broader authority over its education assessments," said Jamie Post Candee, Questar's president and chief executive officer. "The timing is right to bring on board a proven government relations leader, and we are thrilled that a professional of Jeff's caliber has joined us to guide our efforts to create the types of relevant connections to state-level policy experts and decision makers that will make us a more effective assessment partner."
Prior to Questar, Peterson served as executive director of state government relations for The College Board, a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity (among its best-known programs: Advanced Placement®, SAT® and PSAT/NMSQT®). While in this role, he developed the organization's national legislative and government affairs strategy and guided members of his team to its successful implementation, while also leading government relations and advocacy initiatives in key states. Peterson's career spans more than 20 years and features varied legislative and public policy positions, from corporate to government arenas. Before joining The College Board, Peterson held government relations roles at such organizations as the Minnesota Department of Commerce; MinuteClinic, LLC/CVS Caremark; Explore Information Services, LLC; and Goff Public.
Peterson received his degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, as well as certifications from the Public Affairs Institute, the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, and the Institute for Organizational Management. He is also a current member of the Minnesota Government Relations Council. Peterson will be based at Questar's headquarters in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
