"The entire Lincoln family is extremely proud of our Queens campus and this award reaffirms the work done every day by our Queens faculty and staff on behalf of our students and our industry partners," says Shaun McAlmont, Lincoln's CEO. "The Queens campus has some of the highest rates throughout Lincoln of academic achievement by its students and career placement for its graduates. The training taking place every day on campus is shaping the future of the Automotive Technology industry, and redefining how a career training institution can operate."
In notifying the campus of its selection, ACCSC cited the school's "commitment to the expectations and rigors of accreditation as well as a commitment to delivering quality educational programs." The campus will be honored at ACCSC's 2013 Professional Development Conference September 11-13 in Washington, DC.
"The staff, students and faculty at Lincoln's Queens campus are honored to receive the ACCSC School of Distinction Award," says Queens Executive Director James Morrissey. "This award reinforces our commitment to our students and community by providing career training, and we look forward to continue serving all who turn to Lincoln on the path toward a bright future."
Students and graduates of the Queens Lincoln Technical Institute campus don't only enjoy quality training programs and outstanding academic support, Morrissey says. Thanks to their proximity to a major network of New York-area auto dealerships, they have unique access to a wealth of career opportunities as well.
"We're housed in the same facility as the Greater New York Auto Dealers' Association," he explains. "Our Career Services team can literally walk down a corridor and speak about our graduates with hiring managers for some of the most prestigious dealerships in our area. Those same managers can visit our school and personally meet students who may be good candidates for their open positions. There's not only the physical benefit of having these employers close by – mentally, it's also a motivator for our students to know their future employer could walk through our doors at any moment. It drives them to reach and exceed their potential through our programs."
The campus often hosts local and state politicians interested in learning more about improving employment opportunities for New York residents, and last Fall Washington DC "Car Czar" Jay Williams toured the facility as well. McAlmont said Williams remarked it was one of the most sophisticated training centers of its kind that he had seen.
"We feel that the Queens campus is a model for success not only within our own organization, but throughout the vocational training industry," McAlmont adds. "Mr. Williams noted the technical sophistication of our programs, and couple that with the proximity to so many potential employers—there's no better place to train for quality Automotive careers."
Lincoln continues to seek out and establish new partnerships and programs around the country to bridge the skills gap between the abilities of the workforce and the needs of employers. The Queens campus of Lincoln Technical Institute trains students working toward Automotive Technology diplomas in a 50,000-square foot facility that features 15 bays and 12 lifts in a fully functioning auto shop. Students also receive coaching in time management, financial literacy and study skills, and are supported with career search and placement assistance upon graduation.
