Analyst Update: Product Recalls, Quarterly Earnings, and Sale Agreements
Reviewed by: Rohit Tuli, CFA®
The U.S. stock market on Monday booked its fourth straight day of gains as S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) closed at new records. The rally in U.S. markets was fueled by continued hopes that the Federal Reserve wouldn't be in a rush to raise interest rates. The S&P 500 gained 0.38%, DJIA advanced 0.87%, and the Nasdaq moved up 0.34% at the close of the session. The European markets also ended the day in green, rising for the fifth session in a row, with Greek shares boosted by the Prime Minister's offer to bring pro-European independents into the government. The Asian stocks were mostly higher on Monday as steadiness in crude oil prices and the Russian ruble, along with the Federal Reserve's indication that it will take a slow approach to raising interest rates, lifted the market sentiments.
B&G Foods, Inc. (B&G Foods) issued an allergy alert on undeclared peanut and almond in product and has voluntarily recalled particular Ortega Taco Seasoning Mix, Ortega Taco Sauce, Ortega Enchilada Sauce and Ortega Taco Kit products and certain Las Palmas Taco Seasoning Mix and Las Palmas Taco Sauce products.
The Boston Beer Company, Inc. (Boston Beer) reported an increase of 24.6% YoY in its Q3 2014 net revenue amounting to $269.7 million, primarily driven by the growth in core shipment. The Company has retained its 2014 earnings per diluted share guidance of between $6.00 and $6.40.
Berry Plastics Group Inc. (Berry Plastics) posted Q4 FY 2014 net sales of $1.3 billion, up 8.8% YoY and net sales of $5.0 billion, up 6.7% YoY for FY 2014 mainly driven by revenues from acquired businesses together with increases in net selling prices due to the pass through of higher raw material costs partially offset by weak packaged food demand.
Brasilagro Cia Brasileira De Propriedades Agricolas (BrasilAgro) reported net sales revenue for Q1 FY 2015 of R$50.7 million, exhibiting a growth of 29.2% YoY, backed by the growth in individual revenue segments. Grain net revenue (soybean and corn) in Q1 FY 2015 amounted to R$24.2 million, up 68.9% YoY, from the sale of 41,700 tons of grains.
BRF S.A. (BRF) announced the execution of its previously announced sale agreement of its dairy division with Lactalis do Brasil - Comércio, Importação e Exportação de Laticínios Ltd., a company controlled by Parmalat S.p.A., an Italian publicly held company pertaining to the Groupe Lactalis.
