Quaker® Oats Teams Up With Andrew Luck And Fuel Up to Play 60 To Launch Nationwide Search For Schools That Are Fueling Healthy Habits
Make Your Move Video Contest Empowers Students and Schools to Get Moving for a Chance to Win Big
CHICAGO, Oct. 29, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, only half of American children get the recommended amount of exercise1, so it's more important than ever to take action and encourage kids to get out and get moving. The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., has a trusted 135 year heritage and understands the importance of helping to fuel healthy habits like eating nourishing foods and participating in physical activity. That is why Quaker and Fuel Up to Play 60, the nation's largest in-school wellness program, are proud to introduce the Make Your Move Video Contest.
Starting today, parents and teachers at Fuel Up to Play 60 schools across the country can enter the Make Your Move Video Contest by submitting a video of their students that showcases how they get active. Winning schools will be awarded one of five $15,000 school grants or one of 10 $2,500 school grants. Past grants have been used to help schools start walking clubs and bring healthy grab-and-go breakfast options to students. Beyond the Make Your Move grants, Quaker's contribution to Fuel Up to Play 60 totals $125,000 to help fuel health and wellness in schools as part of Quaker's ongoing effort to nourishing healthy communities.
Indianapolis Colts quarterback and Quaker spokesperson, Andrew Luck, continues his relationship with the brand as a role model who exemplifies healthy living by choosing wholesome foods and making physical fitness a way of life. "I know firsthand the benefits of eating right and being active, and I believe that starting at an early age can make all the difference for kids in the future," said Luck. "I am excited to join Quaker and Fuel Up to Play 60 as a guest judge for the Make Your Move Video Contest and am sure I will be impressed by the creative ways the schools show off their best moves!"
To enter the contest on behalf of a Fuel Up to Play 60 school, teachers or parents are asked to record 30 to 60 second videos of students (grades kindergarten through high school) moving during their 60 minutes of physical activity. Activities can include anything from football drills to dance to hula-hooping, so long as the students are moving. From October 29 through November 27, 2013, video entries can be uploaded at QuakerOats.com/makeyourmove, which is also the hub for official contest rules, entry forms and more. Entries will be judged based on the school's need of the grant as described in the entry form, originality (including creativity), and display of active movement in a fun, energetic way. If parents want to enter but their kids aren't enrolled at a Fuel Up to Play 60 school, it's still easy to participate – simply register to be an official Fuel Up to Play 60 school before entering at QuakerOats.com/makeyourmove. Schools must be a standard accredited public or private elementary, middle and/or high school located in the United States or District of Columbia.
"Through the Make Your Move Video Contest, Quaker and Fuel Up to Play 60 have teamed up to cheer on kids at school and at home to help inspire healthy routines that are supported by parents, teachers and the community," said Justin Lambeth, Chief Marketing Officer for Quaker Oats. "As the official Hot Cereal Sponsor of the NFL and through our continued partnership with dynamic role models like Andrew Luck, we remain dedicated to fueling healthy families for years to come."
The Make Your Move Video Contest is one component of Fuel Up to Play 60's larger Make Your Move campaign. The campaign aims to motivate students, teachers, parents and community members to get active. Created in partnership by the National Football League and National Dairy Council, which is funded by America's dairy farmers, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Fuel Up to Play 60 is the nation's largest in-school wellness program and creates real transformational change in more than 73,000 schools. As a result of the program, last year 14 million students ate better by adding nutritious foods like low-fat and fat-free dairy products, fruits, vegetables and whole grains to their meals. Additionally, 14 million are getting more physically active because of this program.
For more than a century, Quaker Oats has been dedicated to nourishing America's families by providing a variety of delicious, oat-based products that help give them the energy they want for an active lifestyle including Old-Fashioned Quaker Oats, Instant Quaker Oatmeal, Quaker Real Medleys Cups and Bars, and Quaker Chewy Granola Bars.
