Quaker Oats Celebrates its Fans on National Oatmeal Day with 'Oat Street' Takeovers
National Holiday is Celebrated by Intercepting Commuters with Free Oatmeal
CHICAGO, Oct. 28, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In celebration of National Oatmeal Day on October 29, The Quaker Oats Company, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, Inc., is taking over and temporarily renaming Oak Streets to Oat Street in select cities across the country. For those living in Chicago, Ill., San Francisco, Calif., and Portland, Ore., their day is about to get a little oat-tastic. Quaker will encourage local residents during their morning commutes on Oat Streets to join in on the celebration and delight them with a delicious surprise: a free on-the-go breakfast of Instant Quaker Oatmeal Cups and Quaker Real Medleys Oatmeal+ (while supplies last).

Take a Bite of National Oatmeal Day
On Wednesday, October 29 from 7-10 a.m., street teams will take over Oak Streets, renaming them to Oat Street, in Chicago, San Francisco and Portland to serve up free samples to local residents. Consumers will enjoy Instant Quaker Oatmeal Apple Cinnamon and Maple Brown Sugar flavor and Real Medleys Apple Walnut Oatmeal+ along with accompanying recipes created by Sam Stephens, Quaker's Creative Oatmeal Officer. Local residents can grab their free on-the-go cup of oatmeal around the following Oat Street locations:
- Chicago – Oak Street between State Street and Michigan Avenue
- San Francisco – Southwest side of Oak Street near The Panhandle, between Baker Street and Stanyan Street
- Portland – Southwest side of Oak Street and 5th Street
The Endless Versatility of the Oat
On National Oatmeal Day, Quaker is also reminding consumers about the variety of ways oatmeal can be enjoyed and is encouraging fans across the country to get inspired and enjoy their oatmeal in delicious and unexpected ways. As part of these efforts, Quaker is inviting families and community members nationwide to join the celebration by Tweeting a photo of their oatmeal breakfast to @Quaker using #QuakerUpEntry for a chance to win a breakfast set. To inspire creative oatmeal creations, below is a fun and festive oatmeal recipe designed by Sam Stephens to try out:
Pumpkin Cheesecake Oatmeal
Ingredients:
½ cup of Quaker Oats (Quick or Old Fashioned)
¼ cup of canned pumpkin puree
2 teaspoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons pumpkin spice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons graham crackers, crumbled
1 tablespoon whipped cream cheese
1 tablespoon chopped pecans
Preparation: Prepare oatmeal as usual. Stir in pumpkin puree, brown sugar, pumpkin spice, and vanilla. Top with crumbled graham crackers, a dollop of whipped cream cheese, and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
