Quadrant Announces Winners in First Annual HOA "Sustainability Challenge" Grant
Grants are part of Quadrant's commitment to increase knowledge and opportunity for suburban families around sustainability and conservation
BELLEVUE, Wash., Aug. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Quadrant Homes has selected two outstanding Puget Sound communities as winners in the company's first-ever Sustainability Challenge. Home owners' associations (HOAs) in the Mt. Si Cottages (Snoqualmie) and Acadia community (Everett) will be awarded $2,000 each toward community improvement goals.
The grant challenge, launched in late 2010, is part of Quadrant's Friends of Quadrant Homes program, which focuses on increasing education, involvement and awareness around suburban sustainability and conservation. The Sustainability Challenge was intended to inspire Washington state communities to come up with innovative ways to work together and create positive, sustainable change. The grant challenge was open to HOAs around the Puget Sound region and winners were selected from entrants that spanned from Everett to Kent and beyond.
"Advancing sustainable communities and conservation in a meaningful way to suburban families and individuals is the 'missing link' in our region's environmental dialogue," said Quadrant President Ken Krivanec. "By creating this annual sustainability challenge, our hope was to show suburban neighborhoods that 'sustainability' isn't just an urban word – it can have meaning and value to their community as well."
Acadia, a D.R. Horton community in Everett, will use their grant to build a community garden and composting program. Mt. Si Cottages, a Quadrant Homes community in Snoqualmie, formed a landscape committee of more than 15 community volunteers who have committed to planting more than 45 trees and 50 shrubs throughout their community. They also have designated an area for a community compost pile.
The winning communities will be featured in September in a video posted on the Friends of Quadrant Homes website (www.friendsofquadranthomes.com).
