QS Quacquarelli Symonds, global higher education analysts, have today named Asia's leading 426 universities. The 2018 edition of the QS World University Rankings: Asia sees Nanyang Technological University take the number-one spot from compatriot National University of Singapore (2nd).

Highlights
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) rises from 4th to 3rd;
- South Korea's KAIST - Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology rises from 6th to 4th;
- China's top university remains Tsinghua University, which falls from 5th to 6th;
- China's Fudan University is the only new entrant into the top 10 this year; it has risen from 11th to 7th;
- The top 50 features universities from Japan (11), China and South Korea (9); Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Taiwan (5); India (3); Singapore (2); and Thailand (1);
- Malaysian universities make particularly noteworthy improvements this year, with three of its universities breaking into the top 50;

- Academic Reputation (measuring research quality)
- Employer Reputation (measuring employability)
- Faculty/Student Ratio (measuring teaching quality)
- Papers per Faculty (research)
- Citations per paper (research)
- International Faculty Ratio (measuring internationalization)
- Staff with PhD (teaching quality)
- International Student Ratio (internationalization)
- Inbound Exchange Students (internationalization)
- Outbound Exchange Students (internationalization).
