Qosmos Selects Coverity Development Testing to Ensure Software Quality for Industry Leading Network Intelligence and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) Technology

SAN FRANCISCO and PARIS, Feb. 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Coverity, Inc., the development testing leader, announced today that Qosmos®, a leading provider of Network Intelligence and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology, has successfully deployed Coverity® Static Analysis to improve the integrity of software code across its full range of Network Intelligence and DPI solutions. Since integrating Coverity, Qosmos has significantly reduced the time it takes to identify defects hidden within software code and improved the efficiency of its development team.

Qosmos Network Intelligence technology identifies and extracts data traveling over networks in real-time, providing a true picture of its purpose, use, and value. A real-time view of events is crucial for a wide variety of mission critical applications such as cyber security, network traffic optimization, and Quality of Service management.

Qosmos software is very complex with over one million lines of code. It is critical for Qosmos to find and fix software bugs as early in the software development process as possible to avoid, or minimize as much as possible, bug fixes in the field. According to Jerome Tollet, CTO and co-founder of Qosmos, "In order to get the same results that we do with Coverity, we would need to have tens of people trained to identify and fix bugs in the field, so finding problems at the source is much more efficient than finding them afterwards."

Qosmos has strong quality assurance (QA) processes and runs many different kinds of tests for its products, such as load testing, performance testing, unit testing, and localization testing. However, Coverity Static Analysis offers a supplementary way of improving quality even further. Qosmos now uses Coverity to test all of its software code. According to Tollet, "After using Coverity, we found some very hard to spot defects that would have been very difficult to qualify and localize using generic QA processes."

Coverity easily integrated into the Qosmos development process. Every night, the software development team produces new builds, which compile code and perform a number of different tests, including those by Coverity Static Analysis.
