Qorvis Measures the Iowa Bounce: Paul, Santorum, Romney Gain More Than 13,000 Twitter Followers in 12 Hours
WASHINGTON, Jan. 4, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Qorvis Communications released an overnight snapshot of the social media footprint of the top three finishers in the Iowa Caucuses – Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul.
In the 12 hours after the Iowa Caucuses began at 8 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Rick Santorum increased his number of Twitter followers by 5,067. Ron Paul added 5,621 followers. Mitt Romney added 2,890 followers. Based on percentage, the Twitter accounts of Paul and Santorum grew more in 12 hours than Barack Obama's Twitter account grew during the entire month of December.
"Twitter doesn't measure votes, Twitter measures momentum," said Wyeth Ruthven, a senior director at Qorvis Communications and author of the Twitter Valuation Analysis. "The tremendous overnight growth in followers of Rick Santorum and Ron Paul gives them a social media bounce heading into New Hampshire. It proves Twitter is a uniquely scalable medium for spreading a political message."
