QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite is Now 'Made for iPod'
OTTAWA, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Furthering its commitment to help automotive customers simplify the design of in-car infotainment systems, QNX Software Systems today announced that the QNX® Aviage® Multimedia Suite now offers enhanced support for Apple iPods. By meeting the certification requirements of Apple's "Made for iPod" program, the suite helps manufacturers of in-car infotainment units, home theater systems, and other multimedia products to complete their "Made for iPod" certifications with less time and effort.
The QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite goes beyond the certification requirements and supports Apple's Extended Accessory Framework (EAF) for communication with iPhone OS 3.0. This capability allows applications developed with the suite to interact with applications running on the iPhone or iPod touch.
The QNX Aviage Multimedia Suite is a production-proven middleware solution that supports multiple generations of iPods including the latest classic, nano, shuffle, and touch models. The suite allows a single Apple authentication chip to support multi-zone systems. As a result, separate listening zones inside a car, bus, train, or other multi-passenger vehicle can share a single authentication chip, dramatically reducing overall system costs. This feature also allows a home theater system to integrate with multiple iPod applications through a single authentication chip. The suite includes iPod one-wire support, enabling the delivery of audio and video through a single USB cable.
"Support for Apple's 'Made for iPod' program is part of our overall strategy to provide customers with standards-based, certified products that provide assured levels of portability and interoperability, while helping to improve time-to-market," said Andy Gryc, senior product marketing manager, QNX Software Systems.
QNX Software Systems is an automotive market leader with software licensed in more than 12 million in-vehicle systems worldwide. In February 2009, the company launched the QNX CAR application platform, which is already being designed into next-generation in-vehicle computing systems and has attracted more than 50 technology partners and automotive customers, including Adobe, Cisco, Daimler, Delphi, Freescale, General Motors, Google, Gracenote, IBM, Mercedes-Benz, Microsoft, Panasonic, Pandora, and Volkswagen.
