NEW YORK, Dec. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The QBE Divisional Foundation has awarded a $75,000 grant to the Autism Speaks organization to support its efforts to educate employers on the benefits people with autism can bring to their businesses.
According to QBE President and Chief Executive Officer John Rumpler, Autism Speaks provides services that fit well with the foundation mission. The foundation is dedicated to supporting vocational opportunities around the world through organizations that help people live more independently, successfully and productively. Autism Speaks serves people living with autism and their families with resources and advocacy, focusing on employment and independent living.
"QBE is pleased to support this outstanding organization that helps individuals be the best they can be," he said. "We want to assist people from all walks of life so they can help support themselves."
Autism Speaks National Director of Leadership Giving Richard Brown says the foundation grant will help develop a new employment toolkit for potential employers to learn how people with autism can contribute to businesses, nonprofit groups or government agencies. "We're thrilled about this donation," he said. "It will meet all our financial needs to produce the toolkit, post it on our website and make it available to employers willing to think about hiring individuals with autism. And it will help families think about viable employment options as their children move into adulthood."
Autism Speaks is one of 10 charities receiving grants from QBE in 2011. More than 200 charities providing vocational services in QBE's local communities were nominated and voted on by employees in 143 offices across the country.
