Qatar Airways Brings 5-Star Dining To JFK
"World's Best Airline" Celebrates with Unique Airplane Dinner Showcases "World's Best Business Class Seat"
NEW YORK, June 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Last night, Qatar Airways invited a select group of media guests to enjoy a 5-star dining experience on-board a Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300ER — all while parked on the tarmac of John F. Kennedy International Airport. New York City's food, travel, and lifestyle journalists came to savor an award-winning culinary menu and celebrate Qatar Airways having been named "Airline of the Year" by Skytrax this week.
Guests dined in the award-winning business class cabin, where they ordered from a diverse, a-la-carte menu — featuring dishes by world-renown chefs Nobu Matsuhisa and Vineet Bhatia — and enjoyed the full range of Qatar Airways' 5-star service and amenities.
"It is an incredible honor to be named 'Airline of the Year' and we could not think of a better way to celebrate than by bringing our signature Airplane Dinner to New York City," said Gunter Saurwein, Qatar Airways Vice President, Americas. "Qatar Airways has a long tradition of offering the highest quality service. We are glad to showcase our unique dining options and in-flight amenities to all visitors."
Guests were also introduced to James Cluer, Qatar Airways' Master of Wine, who presented the airline's world-class wine lists, chosen carefully for altered palates at high altitude. He explained the challenge of choosing the best vintages for the rarefied air at 35,000 feet.
The evening was also an opportunity to celebrate the recently awarded "World's Best Business Class Seat" (Skytrax 2015), featuring amenity kits by Giorgio Armani, lie flat beds with Frette linens, Bose noise-canceling headphones, designer sleepwear, and 17-inch private screens with access to over 1,000 forms of entertainment.
The Airplane Dinner and Skytrax Awards come just after Qatar Airways announced plans to launch three new U.S. gateways in 2016. The airline will launch its first West Coast route to Los Angeles on January 1st, followed by Boston on March 16th and Atlanta on July 1st. These new routes will feature daily flights to Hamad International Airport in Doha.
The airline also plans to introduce the brand-new Airbus A350 to New York City with its second daily flight on March 1st, 2016, as well as offering the state-of-the-art aircraft along its Boston and Philadelphia routes. Qatar Airways currently serves seven U.S. destinations: Washington D.C., New York City, Chicago, Philadelphia, Miami, Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston.
In 2013, Qatar Airways hosted its first Airplane Dinner at Washington Dulles International Airport, which was named the "Most Memorable Event of 2013" by Washington Social Diary. The JFK Airplane Dinner marked the second occasion, though Qatar Airways plans to host future Airplane Dinners in many of its over 140 destinations worldwide.
