PyroGenesis highlighted as one of the key technology providers on the world's most advanced High Tech Air Craft Carrier
MONTREAL, Nov. 26, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - PyroGenesis Canada Inc. ("PyroGenesis" or the "Company") (TSXV: PYR), an environmental solutions company that designs, develops and manufactures plasma waste-to-energy systems and plasma torch products, is proud to be highlighted as one of the key high tech advances being showcased in America's first next-gen aircraft carrier (http://news.cnet.com/8301-11386_3-57611603-76/americas-first-next-gen-aircraft-carrier-takes-high-tech-to-sea/)
The USS Gerald Ford (CVN-78) carrier was christened two weeks ago and is the first of the most advanced class of aircraft carriers ever built with the last carrier being delivered over 10 years ago. PyroGenesis' patented Plasma Arc Waste Destruction System (PAWDS) was highlighted as one of the key advanced technologies featured on this state of the art vessel. Developed by PyroGenesis in Canada, this green technology is able to process waste generated by 5000 sailors and can be operated with the push of a single button.
"This is indeed a great moment not only for PyroGenesis but Canada as a whole. To have our technology highlighted as the green technology of choice on one of the most advanced technology platforms in the world is clearly a defining moment for Canada; akin to the deployment of the CanadaArm on the International space station", said P. Peter Pascali, President and CEO of PyroGenesis
"PyroGenesis' system was chosen in a highly competitive environment; its design is five times smaller and half the weight of a conventional marine incinerator. The launch of the USS Gerald Ford reaffirms PAWDS as a proven and state of the art solution for waste management, and underscores PyroGenesis' ability to handle extremely complex/hazardous waste challenges that no other technology can contend with. As such PyroGenesis is expanding the use of PAWDS as a mobile land based waste destruction solution for hazardous liquid and gaseous wastes", said Gillian Holcroft, Executive VP, Strategic Alliances for PyroGenesis.
"This is the first new aircraft carrier class since the USS Nimitz in 1968, and America's first new carrier of any kind since the USS George H.W. Bush was completed in 2003. The USS Gerald R. Ford is the first-of-its-class carrier, ushering in an era of high-tech aircraft carriers. So far two of Pyrogenesis' PAWDS systems have been ordered, but if the Nimitz-class carriers and Enterprise were to be replaced on a one-for-one basis, eleven carriers would be required over the life of the program representing a revenue stream to PyroGenesis of at least $50MM, and this does not include revenues from PAWDS land based applications", said P. Peter Pascali, President and CEO of PyroGenesis.
About PyroGenesis Canada Inc.
PyroGenesis Canada is an environmental solutions company that designs, develops and manufactures plasma waste-to-energy systems and plasma torch products. PyroGenesis' proprietary plasma technologies utilize the intense energy of plasma to gasify and vitrify virtually any type of waste without producing hazardous by-products. PyroGenesis' technology can also turn waste into a glassy rock that can be utilized as construction material. PyroGenesis has marquee defense industry and civilian customers that are using its technology in marine and land-based applications. For more information, please visit www.pyrogenesis.com
