Pwnie Express to Provide IoT Security for Black Hat® 2017
Black Hat® USA 2017 Marks First Time a Premier Infosec Conference Adds IoT Security to Onsite Arsenal
LAS VEGAS, July 19, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Pwnie Express announced today that security teams working at Black Hat® USA 2017 will use Pwnie Express to identify, assess, and respond to threats from Internet of Things (IoT) devices at Black Hat. Pwnie will be the IoT security solution in Black Hat's network operations center (NOC).
Black Hat® USA 2017, one of the world's largest cybersecurity conferences, will be held in Las Vegas's Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino July 22nd-27th. Pwnie Express is the first company in the history of Black Hat deployed specifically to protect conference participants and infrastructure against IoT based threats.
Pwnie Express has partnered with security teams to monitor major events before, but "this one is different", said Paul Paget, CEO of Pwnie Express. "This is our community and like any peer group, the event creates plenty of pressure for our team. We are honored to be at Black Hat alongside customers, vendors and partners who trust us to provide IoT security and research. It is exciting to see the awareness about the risks from IoT, and humbling to be the first ever IoT security provider for Black Hat."
Pwnie showed Black Hat attendees what it could do last year, when the company detected an ongoing karma attack and a malicious cell tower at the convention. From its space on the convention hall floor, Pwnie watched 35,000 unique devices connect to the fake access point, which spoofed 1,047 different Wi-Fi networks.
"We're really excited to be working with Pwnie Express," said Bart Stump, NOC operations leader with Black Hat. "Many of the members of the Black Hat NOC team have been using Pwnie Express products, both personally and professionally, for years and we're looking forward to working with them at Black Hat."
Stump's colleague, NOC operations leader Neil Wyler (also known as Grifter), added: "We're always looking for ways to better understand and analyze the Black Hat network. The addition of Pwnie Express provides one more layer of insight and visibility that will help us deliver a more stable, and more secure experience for our attendees."
Pwnie Express joins Palo Alto Networks®, RSA®, CenturyLink®, Ruckus Wireless ™ & Gigamon®, as vendors supplying security tools to the Black Hat NOC.
