NEW YORK, Jan. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- According to PwC US, the Indianapolis area is expected to experience a substantial number of visitors and significant related spending for Super Bowl XLVI. Spending by the National Football League (NFL), businesses, visitors, and media on area lodging, transportation, meals, entertainment, business services, and other hospitality and tourism activities is expected to total approximately $150 million. This estimate is based on a proprietary analysis that considers characteristics unique to this year's event including the participating teams, host community attributes, national economic conditions, corporate and other ancillary activities, and other factors.

"To successfully host the Super Bowl, a destination must not only be capable of providing quality venues, hotels, restaurants, transportation, and entertainment, but must also be willing to invest in security, special events, recruitment and volunteer training as well as clean-up and sanitation. Indianapolis has a history of strong commitment by its leaders to create and sustain a tourism industry based largely on major sporting events and conventions," said Robert Canton, director, sports and tourism sector, PwC US.
Hosting the Super Bowl in Indianapolis presents an opportunity for the surrounding region to experience the game's related events and generate a notable level of economic impact on the host community. The city is located within driving distance of many major markets, enabling event organizers to extend their reach and increase visitor levels to activities such as the NFL Experience and Super Bowl Village.
"With a newly renovated convention center, a concentration of quality hotels downtown, and a great history of hosting events like the Indy 500 and several NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship Final Four games, Indianapolis has shown it is an ideal location to host major sporting events," noted Canton.
