PwC Greater Michigan; 100 Years, 100 Ways to Give Back
PwC to hold company-wide Annual Day of Giving, celebrating 100 years of community involvement
DETROIT, June 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- PwC US announced today that its Greater Michigan practice is kicking off its "100 Ways to Give Back" volunteer initiative to mark its 100th anniversary in Detroit. The volunteer campaign is launching with the Annual Day of Giving on June 19, when more than 450 employees will volunteer at numerous locations in Detroit. Additionally, employees will volunteer in 100 ways throughout 2015 to support youth education, economic and community development, and talent recruitment efforts in the community.
Locations such as Gleaners Community Food Bank, Cornerstone Schools, the City of Detroit, various YMCAs, Arts & Scraps, Focus: HOPE and others will host the PwC volunteers striving to give back to their local communities.
Additional 100 Ways activities include opportunities to participate in Earn Your Future (EYF) financial literacy modules, PwC's $190 million commitment to advance financial literacy, supported by the PwC Charitable Foundation.
"The 100th anniversary is a very special milestone for our firm and I can't think of a better way to launch our 100 Ways to Give Back campaign than by having our Greater Michigan practice in the community making a positive impact on the people that will help to grow our city in the next 100 years," said Ray Telang, managing partner of PwC's Greater Michigan Market.
PwC's history in Detroit dates back to May 1915, when the firm merged with chartered public accountants Macpherson, Bonthron and Co., and operated from an office located in the Guardian Building (at that time, the Union Trust Building).
Throughout 2015, PwC will be tracking its volunteer impact and sharing with the community through its YouTube channel and other social media sites like Twitter, where employees will tag volunteer activities with #PwCDetroitGivesBack. The firm also will celebrate its anniversary with a 100th birthday cake float in this year's America's Thanksgiving Day Parade® and recognize its employees and their charitable contributions with a gala event at the end of the year.
Through its 100 Ways campaign, PwC strives to engage with the community through charitable giving; celebrate its employees and history; and highlight the firm's strongly rooted corporate responsibility mission. PwC has a longstanding history of community involvement and in fiscal year 2014, employees volunteered close to 350,000 hours and raised approximately $22 million for charitable causes.
Additionally, employees are invited to participate in PwC's charitable giving campaign every October, where they can donate to 501(c)(3) organizations. Through its charitable initiatives, PwC has achieved 100 percent year-over-year increases in corporate responsibility giving.
