Food insecurity is an alarming problem in America with more than 50 million people, including 16.7 million children, living in food insecure households. It has no boundaries: A single mother, working a minimum wage job, who can't afford to pay her rent and also buy food for her children; an elderly man, whose Social Security income doesn't cover the cost of his life-saving medications and his groceries; a father, recently laid off, who must choose between paying the electric bill and buying food for his family. What these people, like millions of other Americans, have in common is that they depend on the assistance of Feeding America's nationwide network to help put food on the table day in and day out.
As part of the Nutrition Mission, a national charitable campaign to help provide nourishment to the millions of Americans who live with food insecurity, the One A Day Women's brand will make a donation of two meals to Feeding America for every purchase of One A Day Women's Multivitamins through July 28, 2013 - up to 2 million meals.** New for this year, the One A Day Women's brand is also calling for Americans to share stories of the "Nutrition Missions" taking place each and every day to help fight hunger in local communities for a chance to be selected for one of four $25,000 grants to be awarded to Feeding America food banks in September during Hunger Action Month™.
"It's truly shocking that in this day and age so many Americans still struggle with food insecurity. As a mother, I can't even imagine not being able to provide for my children," says long time hunger advocate and Feeding America volunteer, Sheryl Crow. "That's why I'm proud to again be teaming up with the One A Day Women's brand on the Nutrition Mission to help Feeding America continue to serve Americans in need. I've seen the great work of Feeding America volunteers firsthand at my local food bank and can't think of a better way to honor their remarkable work than by helping to fund additional efforts in their local communities. Please join our effort by buying a bottle of One A Day Women's or making a grant nomination for a Feeding America food bank."
Buy a Bottle, Make a Difference
As part of the One A Day Women's brand commitment to the Nutrition Mission, now through July 28, 2013, a donation of two meals - up to 2 million meals** – will be made to Feeding America for every purchase of One A Day Women's Multivitamins.
"We are proud to be teaming up again with Feeding America and Sheryl Crow on our Nutrition Mission to raise awareness of food insecurity and help families across America get nutrition they may need," says Barton Warner, VP, Marketing, Bayer HealthCare. "A purchase of One A Day Women's not only helps support a woman's own nutrition, but now it also strengthens Feeding America's efforts to help nourish families across the country."
Honoring Volunteers and Commitment to Fighting Hunger in Local Communities
This year, the Nutrition Mission will also recognize the people that fight against hunger in their local communities every day by awarding four $25,000 grants to their local Feeding America food banks. One A Day Women's brand encourages consumers to share stories of how they fight hunger in their local communities at www.NutritionMission.com to be entered for a chance to be selected for one of the four grants. Winners will be announced in September, with one winner receiving a trip to meet Sheryl Crow in New York City to help further raise awareness of food insecurity and inspire others to help fight hunger.
"We take great pride in helping to fight hunger across the United States and are proud to again be working with One A Day Women's brand and Sheryl Crow on the Nutrition Mission," says Leah Ray, Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, Feeding America. "Not only will the 2 million meals provide a great benefit, but the grant opportunity will bring attention to the amazing work of our volunteers."
