Purchase College Announces Endowed Faculty Positions
PURCHASE, N.Y., April 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Purchase College, SUNY, has announced it is seeking nominations for two new endowed faculty positions: the Eugene Grant Distinguished Scholar and the Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Faculty Chair in Literature. These appointments will utilize donor funds for faculty who will both enrich and influence the Purchase College community.
"We are seeking two individuals who are highly accomplished—perhaps in the realm of political activism or the literary world," says Barry Pearson, Purchase College's provost and vice president for academic affairs. "We aspire to infuse their experience and intellect into the Purchase community, with diverse opportunities to directly impact campus life."
Below are details on the two positions for the 2015-2016 academic year.
The Eugene Grant Distinguished Scholar
Purchase College is seeking nominations for the appointment of a prominent scholar/public intellectual who will enhance the College's Liberal Arts and Sciences. Priority will be given to nominees who demonstrate the ability to contribute to curriculum and outreach activities in social activism and community engagement, especially pertaining to the environment. The Eugene Grant Distinguished Scholar will be expected to teach, give public lectures, and participate in smaller events for targeted groups of students. The appointment will be for one or two years.
Please email nominations (including self) by April 15, 2015. Include name of nominee; links to a website, biography, and work; and a paragraph of no more than 250 words detailing how the scholar would raise public value for the college. Inquiries and nominations should be emailed to [email protected].
Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Chair in Literature
Purchase College also welcomes nominations and letters of interest from accomplished writers, critics, intellectuals, and/or scholars to be in residence as the Roy and Shirley Durst Distinguished Faculty Chair in Literature. The Chair will engage in teaching and scholarly activities related to the relationship between literature and the visual and performing arts, and will serve as a critical resource for the college within the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of the Arts, and, in particular, the Literature discipline. The Chair is expected to enrich the vibrant intellectual and cultural community of the campus by offering public programs, small panels and workshops, and informal meetings with faculty and students.
Interested individuals are asked to submit a letter describing current work and interests, as well as the names of three references. Nominations should include the name of the nominee, links to a biography, and a brief paragraph describing current and planned work. All submissions must be e-mailed to [email protected] no later than April 15, 2015.
