Punxsutawney Phil Predicts Six More Weeks of Winter; RESA Recommends Shopping for Electricity and Gas To Mitigate Energy Costs
PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa., Feb. 2, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania's iconic groundhog has "seen" his shadow, which means we may be in for a long winter. The Retail Energy Supply Association (RESA) encourages consumers to use this moment as a time to review their electricity and natural gas expenditures and compare offers.
"While our winter has been relatively mild thus far, we may still have some cold weather coming our way," says David Fein, President of RESA. "Most consumers in competitive energy states can find more value and real savings on their gas and electricity bills by shopping with competitive suppliers for products and services. Many competitive suppliers also offer affordable ways to conserve energy and improve efficiency. Interested customers can simply visit their local Public Utility Commission website to find competitive suppliers with offers in their area, compare prices and terms, and request a switch to the supplier and product that best meets their needs."
Shopping for electricity and natural gas is generally an easy process. In fact, more than 12 million U.S. business and residential consumers have already made the switch from utility to competitive supply. "Businesses and homeowners in many states can now choose their energy supplier and recognize savings as well as benefits from valued-added services and products," adds Fein. "Now is the time to shop and take advantage of a multitude of competitive and consumer-focused offers."
Consumers in all restructured energy market states can learn more about their right to shop for electricity and natural gas products by visiting www.resausa.org and clicking on the consumer corner or state map, or by visiting their public utility commission or utility website. If your state does not currently allow electric or gas shopping, notify your policy makers and ask them to implement consumer energy choice in your state.
