WASHINGTON, Dec.11, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Alejandro Garcia Padilla, the governor of Puerto Rico, will speak at a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon on December 16. Governor Garcia Padilla will talk about steps the U.S. territory is taking to pay off the $70 billion in debt and revive the economic growth on the island.
Puerto Rico, inhibited by 3.5 million of U.S. citizens, has been suffering from a decade-long recession, causing businesses to close and residents to leave the island. About 2.5 percent of the population left last year and 1,500 Puerto Ricans continue to depart each week. Garcia Padilla has been negotiating with debtholders and urging U.S. Congress to help.
The Press Club luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m. Remarks will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session ending at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchase by going to the following link. The cost of luncheon admission is $23 for National Press Club members and $37 for non-members. Tickets must be purchased at time of reservation.
