Public Wireless Selects Aricent LTE eNodeB Software
Aricent Group's eNodeB Software Stacks and Frameworks Deliver Scalable Small Cell Solution to Mobile Ecosystem for Superior Performance and Experience
BARCELONA, Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS -- The Aricent Group, a leading global innovation and technology services company, announced it has licensed its industry-leading eNodeB software frameworks to Public Wireless, a leading wireless solutions provider. Public Wireless has integrated Aricent's LTE eNodeB software with its small cell platform to develop highly flexible and scalable small cell solutions to provide optimal capacity, coverage, and speed.
According to the GSMA, LTE is the fastest growing communication technology in history, and its deployment requires heterogeneous network architecture comprised of base stations of varying form factors. Thus, small cells will play a very important role in the proliferation of LTE. The joint solution addresses a deep market need for scalable small cell solutions that can help mitigate development risks.
The Aricent eNodeB software framework integrates Layer 2 and Layer 3+ modules in a package that serves as a robust reference platform for developing a complete LTE eNodeB solution. It provides complete Layer 2 and Layer 3 functionalities, and exposes clear interfaces for easy interoperability and integration. In addition to this comprehensive stack portfolio, Aricent also provides value added applications for Radio Resource Management (RRM), call and session management, Self-Organized Networks (SON) and management plane. This helps customers provide clearly differentiated products and also helps in drastically reducing the cost and time to market.
The key features of the Aricent eNodeB software framework are:
- Plug and Play: Flexible and modular architecture enables easy porting and optimization on any platform, and seamless integration with third-party software.
- Optimized Performance: Customized to deliver optimal performance on several industry leading platforms to realize the true potential of LTE.
- Unmatched Scalability: Ability to accommodate a wide range of form factors, including macrocells, microcells, picocells, and femtocells.
"With LTE being deployed globally, there is a huge need for robust small cell solutions that can be deployed at a minimum cost," said Rakesh Vij, Vice President of Business Development, Wireless and Convergence, at the Aricent Group. "We are pleased to partner with Public Wireless and provide them with our software frameworks for developing intelligent small cell solutions."
"We are delighted to integrate our flexible hardware platforms with Aricent's software to provide next generation solutions to our customers," said Murat Erkam, Vice President of Product Management of Public Wireless. "This partnership reduces development cost and time dramatically, enabling our customers to receive maximum benefits. Further, this integration will allow for the near term delivery of the Venice 3G/4G product which leverages our PW-100 small cell platform."
The Aricent Group will showcase this new solution and other offerings at GSMA Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain, from February 27 – March 1, at hospitality suite AV86.

About Public Wireless
Founded in 2004 and headquartered in the heart of Silicon Valley California, Public Wireless is focused on creative and alternative small cell siting methodologies and technologies to offer integrated wireless solutions and services to its customers. This led to Public Wireless becoming the first to commercially deployable outdoor IP small cells in North America as early as 2006. Today, continuing to position itself at the forefront of the evolution of field optimized small cell technologies, Public Wireless is now leading the way offering designs of modular Intelligent Small Cell Platforms which are very compact and highly efficient with flexible 3G/4G standard compliant outdoor base stations platforms which can leverage any silicon or software vendor. These platforms can serve neutral host or service provider dedicated applications. The solutions include uniform "building blocks" optimized for expansion and upgradable modularity. They allow the (neutral host or service provider) operators to lower their total cost of ownership and increase OPEX efficiencies over the long term with outdoor small cell network infrastructure.
