Public Policy, Trade Attorney Ed Barron Joins Greenberg Traurig in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 19, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorney Ed Barron, who spent 20 years in the public sector at the U.S. Senate as Deputy Chief Counsel of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Environment and Public Works Committee, and Deputy Chief Counsel and, later, Chief of Staff of the Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee, has joined the Washington, D.C. office the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Barron, experienced in federal public policy, congressional legislative activities, corporate and judicial matters, joins as a shareholder in the Governmental Affairs Practice. He joins from Russell & Barron.
While legal counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committees, Barron worked on a wide range of matters, including: antitrust; patent; telecommunications; compulsory copyright licenses; pharmaceutical issues; oversight of the FCC, the U.S. Copyright Office, the FTC and the Justice Department; broadcast television; land regulation; interstate compacts; wireless issues; radio; competition issues; property rights; international issues and implementation of trade agreements; and nominations to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Additionally, Barron served as a U.S. representative at several World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conferences, at both World Food Summits, and worked on a number of trade issues involving agriculture, environmental policies, conservation, transportation, competition policy, food safety, food security and intellectual property.
As an attorney at the United States Department of Agriculture, and later legal counsel to the Senate Agriculture Committee, Barron worked on many agriculture, conservation, nutrition, forestry and rural development programs. While with the Senate EPW Committee, he worked on federal highway, safety, transit and related environmental programs.
Previously Barron also served as Vice President of Government Affairs and Legislative Counsel for the Air Transport Association, which represents all major U.S. passenger airline and air cargo carriers. In this capacity, he worked extensively on the reauthorization of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) aviation programs, working with the Senate Commerce and Finance Committees, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, as well as the FAA.
An active participant in the community, Barron is on the Board of Directors of WhyHunger (formerly World Hunger Year), a nonprofit charity and leading advocate for innovative, community-based solutions to hunger and poverty.
He received his J.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1975 and a B.A. degree in Psychology from Syracuse University in 1970. He is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C. Barron received a U.S. Secret Service Award and World Hunger Year Award in 2005 and the National WIC Association Award in 2007.
