PUBG Corp. to launch the National PUBG League (NPL) for PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS commencing January 2019
PUBG's North American League will feature a million dollar prize pool and qualify teams for an international championship event
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- PUBG Corporation (PUBG Corp.) is today announcing its next major foray into the esports scene with the launch of the National PUBG League (NPL), the first professional league for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds in North America. The 2019 season will feature a $1 million prize pool, and will be produced in partnership with OGN, the leading producer and broadcaster of esports events and content. The NPL will be held in Los Angeles, CA, where players will have their housing and travel subsidized for North America's largest PUBG competition to date.
Starting in January 2019, NPL will be part of a global competitive system, in which top-performing teams will have a chance to qualify for an international event at the end of the season where best teams from each region will compete against one another to decide the season champion. The 2019 League will consist of three phases of 16 four-player squads. Teams will play first-person perspective matches across both the Erangel and Miramar maps. Information surrounding qualification for the NPL and other specifics will be released in the coming months.
The League's inception is a part of the PUBG Corp.'s five-year plan to develop a sustainable global esports infrastructure.
Luke Park, Head of North America Business at PUBG Corp. said:
"This is the natural continuation of PUBG Corporation's five year eSports plan, bringing a consistent and enthralling competitive PUBG experience to North America. It's going to be an exciting time to be a PUBG fan, watching America's best players compete over more matches, learning, growing and strategizing to take the top prize."
