PTAB Ruling Underscores the Strength of Key GTL Patents For Detecting and Controlling Contraband Cell Phones in Correctional Facilities

RESTON, Va., June 9, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Global Tel*Link (GTL), the leading provider of correctional technology solutions and an innovator in payment services solutions for government agencies, today announced that the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeals Board (PTAB) has rejected Securus Technologies' request for Inter-Partes Review of GTL contraband cell phone detection patents 8,233,880 ('880) and 8,606,229 ('229).   The PTAB found that Securus failed to show a reasonable likelihood that Securus could demonstrate that any of the claims of these patents were unpatentable.  These key GTL technologies detect, monitor, and report contraband cell phone activity to assist GTL customers in combating the growing security threat of illegal phones in their facilities.
