NEWARK, N.J., March 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- PSEG hosted its annual Supplier Diversity Procurement Fair at the Robert Treat Hotel today, connecting New Jersey's diverse business community with many of the state's regulated utilities about potential buying opportunities.
Historically, this event has provided participants an excellent opportunity to meet one-on-one with representatives from various utilities looking for specific products and services. PSEG expanded this year's event to include its large suppliers, encouraging them to also do business with diverse firms in support of their own operations and as subcontractors for PSEG.
"We're proud to have reached a record level of more than $275 million of business with women and minority-owned businesses in 2014," said Derek DiRisio, president of PSEG Services Corporation. "Our success working with a diverse range of suppliers over the past 25 years has provided a wealth of opportunity for New Jersey businesses and created thousands of jobs. We remain committed to supplier diversity because we see significant benefits to PSEG and all of its constituents."
Participation from organizations like the NJ Board of Public Utility Supplier Diversity Development, New Jersey Department of the Treasury and NJ Transit, and other large utilities like Consolidated Edison and New Jersey National Gas, allows attendees to make new connections and strengthen their business.
Jennifer Marin, president of Endot Industries, a women-owned New Jersey firm that supplies materials for PSEG's gas delivery business, credited PSEG's recent investments with her company's growth during a tough economy. "The most recent award for the Energy Strong program was instrumental in allowing us to maintain a more stable work force and retain employees during winter months – when layoffs are more prominent due to slow business," explained Marin. "Energy Strong also helped Endot to maintain a healthy sales volume when our water pipe sales are off due to the slow housing market."
The event was cosponsored by PSEG's partners, the New York & New Jersey Minority Supplier Development Council, the Women Presidents' Educational Organization and the New Jersey BPU Supplier Diversity Development Council. These advocacy organizations are committed to assisting small, minority, women-owned businesses develop relationships with companies throughout the region.
