KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Burns & McDonnell today announced it strongly endorses New Jersey's clean energy policy and is proud to support its longtime client PSE&G as it moves aggressively to implement its Clean Energy Future (CEF) proposal. For the past several years, Burns & McDonnell has been working with PSE&G on its Energy Strong initiative, paving the way for a comprehensive program to increase electric vehicle charging capacity and energy storage resources throughout the state.
Burns & McDonnell is a full-service engineering, architecture, construction, environmental and consulting solutions firm serving electric and gas utilities, industries and a range of power providers throughout North America and abroad.
"Through our work with PSE&G, we have seen first-hand the benefits that these electric vehicle and energy storage projects can bring to New Jersey," said Vern H. Mulkey, director of projects for Burns & McDonnell.
PSE&G has filed its CEF as a response to a challenge issued by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy to achieve annual energy savings, reduce energy bills and ensure the energy used by consumers is from cleaner sources. Today's CEF filing will allow the utility to help install approximately 40,000 electric vehicle chargers in homes, businesses and public areas while also helping jump start the work required to reach New Jersey's goal of building 2,000 megawatts (MW) of energy storage capacity by 2030.
"We look forward to the opportunity to partner with PSE&G in the future to help both the utility and the State of New Jersey reach their ambitious clean energy goals," Mulkey added.
In addition to its work with PSE&G, Burns & McDonnell is working with other utilities throughout North America as they build more flexible systems required to accommodate more distributed generation and renewable resources and the expected growth of electric vehicles. Among other changes, utilities now must begin managing power grids that can accommodate two-way power flows from multiple sources, instead of conventional, one-way flows from large central-station generating units.
Burns & McDonnell now has a team of 1,500 engineers and technologists who serve as resources for utilities coping with rapidly evolving technologies, new regulations and a host of other changes.
In addition to its dedicated engineering team, Burns & McDonnell is working with Greenlots, the recognized technology leader in electric vehicle (EV) charging hardware, software and other systems needed by utilities, cities and other governmental entities who manage EV charging infrastructure.
