Pryor Cashman Expands Los Angeles Office with Addition of Trial Lawyer Thomas Vidal
NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES, July 27, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pryor Cashman LLP is pleased to announce that leading Los Angeles-based trial attorney Thomas H. Vidal has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation, Media + Entertainment, Intellectual Property and Technology Groups. Vidal was previously a partner at Abrams, Garfinkel, Margolis, Bergson, LLP. Vidal's move is the second significant addition to the firm's Los Angeles office this year, following the firm's hiring of entertainment law partner Adam Mehr in May.
"Our clients are looking for innovative problem solvers and practical advisors. Thomas not only brings significant experience as a trusted advisor, but when litigation can't be avoided, he has a solid track record of success in the courtroom. His addition is part of our continued strategic growth for our Los Angeles office and is a perfect fit to the suite of services we currently offer. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team," said Ron Shechtman, Pryor Cashman's managing partner.
Vidal's litigation practice spans IP, technology, media, entertainment, and business litigation matters at the federal and state levels. His broad practice reflects his diverse range of clients: media companies, software developers, entrepreneurs, film distributors, VOD platforms, recording artists, motion picture production companies, and retailers, among others.
As a former software developer and programmer, Vidal brings a strong understanding of the issues and challenges facing the tech industry, and has successfully handled matters on behalf of web developers, hardware manufacturers, and gaming companies. For his media and entertainment industry clients, Vidal has achieved victories in cases involving publicity rights, defamation, and First Amendment issues. In fact, Vidal was lead trial counsel for Ray William Johnson, the creator of the popular YouTube series which has earned more than 3 billion views and 10 million subscribers, in a cutting-edge copyright fair use trial.
"As a trial lawyer, I don't simply resolve disputes for companies and entrepreneurs. I work tirelessly to protect the things most valuable to them -- their creations, technologies, reputation, capital to expand, re-invest and innovate. Pryor Cashman provides the perfect platform upon which I can achieve these goals for my clients and I am thrilled to join this talented group of attorneys," said Vidal.
Vidal earned his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law, and his B.A. from University of Colorado Boulder. He is an Editorial Board Member of Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine, and serves as Co-Chair of the Beverly Hills Bar Association's Litigation Section. He is also a board member of the Los Angeles Christian Health Center. Outside the office, Thomas is a competitive distance runner and former U.S. Masters swimmer.
