ATLANTA, Sept. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Public Relations Society of America Georgia Chapter (www.prsageorgia.org) hosts two events on Friday, September 12 tackling important issues that impact communications professionals: ethics in the digital age and the powerful impact on buying habits by mothers. Both events will be held at Maggiano's Buckhead in Atlanta.
Morning Seminar: #Ethics in the Digital Age:
The rise of digital communications and social media brings new challenges for public relations professionals. While it's tempting to think of ethics as the domain of philosophers debating theoretical concepts, the reality is that communicators face ethical decisions every day, and they are almost never black and white.
Communications professionals must be mindful of transparency and disclosure requirements, including guidelines established by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for bloggers and media.
Issues such as privacy and personal identity are now far more challenging, as is the responsibility of PR professionals managing the wide range of social media channels. This interactive seminar will provide an overview of key current FTC guidelines as well as those from PRSA, which are an essential foundation for practicing PR professionals. Simulations of real-life scenarios will enable small groups to debate and decide how they would handle specific situations.
Panelists:
- Perry Binder, Professor of Legal Studies, Georgia State University
- Bob Frause, APR, Fellow PRSA, Of Counsel, Allison + Partners, Seattle, WA & former chair of National PRSA's Board of Ethics and Professional Standards (BEPS)
Check in for the seminar begins at 9:15 am, it runs from 9:30 to 11:00 am. Seminar details and registration: http://bit.ly/1lES2ud Online registration is available until September 11.
Luncheon: Mommy, Inc. - The Most Influential and Lucrative Consumer Market
Women control 75 percent of U.S. household spending, translating into about $5 trillion per year. Of that, mothers account for the overwhelming majority of consumer purchases and decisions. Reaching and influencing mothers are some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing today's marketing and public relations professionals.
This luncheon features experts from leading consumer brands and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) sharing insights on how mothers:
- Consume information and share their experiences;
- Are influenced and activated;
- Compare and contrast products and services; and
- Manage household budgets and make purchase decisions.
Panelists:
- Kate Levinson Awsumb, Health Communications Lead, CDC, Waterborne Disease Prevention Branch
- Kim Englehardt Miller, APR, Executive Director, Integrated Marketing Strategy & Communications, Primrose Schools Support Center
- Ashley Mowrey, PR & Consumer Engagement Manager, Graco Children's Products

The panel will be moderated by Bonnie Ulman, Chief Insights & Planning Officer and Director, M Booth South.
