Provost Umphrey Named to List of Elite Trial Lawyers by The National Law Journal
BEAUMONT, Texas, Sept. 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- On September 9, 2014, The National Law Journal and Law.com selected Provost Umphrey Law Firm for its inaugural list of America's Elite Trial Lawyers. Provost Umphrey is one of 50 firms nationally named to the list, and one of eight Texas-based firms.
To qualify for inclusion, firms had to have achieved at least one significant plaintiff victory between January 1, 2013, and June 30, 2014, and show a history of civil litigation success. Additionally, firms had to devote at least 50 percent of their litigation resources to plaintiffs work and derive half or more of their revenue from plaintiffs contingency litigation.
According to The National Law Journal and Law.com, over 100 firms across the country were nominated for a coveted spot on the list. The 50 firms chosen were named because they had "big victories in complex cases that have a wide impact on the law and legal business." Among the factors considered for inclusion were: performance in significant cases, verdict dollar amount, novelty of the claim pursued, firm size in relation to impact or recovery amount, and willingness to take on large cases and to persevere in the face of adversity.
"Provost Umphrey is honored to be included on the list of Elite Trial Lawyers with so many other respected law firms. We take pride in fighting for those who can't fight for themselves in long, hard-fought cases, so it is rewarding to have our work recognized," says senior partner James E. Payne.
In the time frame considered, Provost Umphrey obtained a $32 million verdict against Dominos and represented approximately 200 former NFL players in the NFL Concussion Litigation. In both cases, Provost Umphrey fought a large opponent and remained committed to the client regardless of challenging obstacles. This award comes on the heels of nine Provost Umphrey lawyers being named to the 2014 Texas Super Lawyers list and the 2015 Best Lawyers in America list, respectively.
Provost Umphrey will be recognized in a full feature, both in print and online, on September 29, 2014. Read the full announcement here.
