Providers Share How to Replace Volume with Value at HIMSS Population Health Summit
The inaugural HIMSS Population Health Summit offers 12 different educational sessions with speakers from Geisinger Health System, George Washington University Hospital, Montefiore, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College and more
CHICAGO, Sept. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Population health brings new momentum to using health information technology to improve health and healthcare through a new emphasis on treating and managing the health of a targeted population of patients with a focus on wellness and chronic care management, which will drive value to both the patient and the healthcare industry. This proactive approach to managing the health of specific patient groups comes to the forefront at the HIMSS Population Health Summit, which occurs simultaneously with the mHealth Summit and the CyberSecurity Summit. These three Summits make up the HIMSS Connected Health Conference, scheduled for Nov. 8-11 at the Gaylord National Resort in the Washington, DC area.
"We know that 20 percent of any population of patients accounts for 80 percent of the healthcare costs," said H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, HIMSS President/CEO. Lieber cites statistics from a June 2015 Town Hall presentation by the HIMSS Clinical & Business Intelligence Committee's Task Force on population health. "With population health management, the two main goals are to improve the health status of high-risk patients, and prevent any migration of healthy individuals to the chronically ill segment. The Population Health Summit will address these challenges and other components of population health with information on how to use available data to improve care and manage costs, steps that can help reverse the trend and the population of those who are chronically ill."
The Population Health Summit program offers 12 sessions during 2-1/2 days with speakers from large academic medical centers to community health centers sharing their expertise on improving patient care and managing costs with population health management.
