Year-long effort kicks off in Chicago on November 20 with employee and client volunteers packing meals for nonprofit organization Feed My Starving Children
MENLO PARK, Calif., Nov. 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- An alarming one in nine people in the world go to bed hungry each night, according to the World Food Programme. With so much work to be done in the fight to end hunger, global consultancy Protiviti (www.protiviti.com) announced today the launch of i on Hunger, its year-long initiative to provide one million meals for those struggling with hunger across the globe. Protiviti employees will be joined by volunteers from the firm's client base who share a passion for the cause.
"Looking across Protiviti globally, we recognized the collective passion of our people in addressing hunger, and we are committed to making i on Hunger a success," said Joseph Tarantino, president and CEO, Protiviti. "Working together through food drives, meal-packing events and meal delivery efforts, we hope to bring food to those who need it most, helping to nourish hungry people and provide hope for the future."
On Thursday, November 20th, Protiviti's Chicago office will join forces with nonprofit Feed My Starving Children at Chicago's Navy Pier for a meal-packing event. Protiviti Chicago's ambitious goal is to pack 100,000 nutritious MannaPack ™ meals in two-and-a-half hours.
More than 350 volunteers from Protiviti Chicago and 19 of its Chicago area client companies will don hair nets and work side by side measuring ingredients, bagging and boxing the life-saving meals. Feed My Starving Children will then coordinate delivery of the meals to malnourished children in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
"Our Chicago office has teamed with Feed My Starving Children to conduct an efficient and fun meal-packing event today," said Tom Andreesen, a Protiviti managing director and head of the firm's Chicago office. "I'm extremely pleased that so many of our clients here in Chicago are joining our efforts and their employees are volunteering alongside our people to make a positive difference in the world."
In an effort to pack and deliver more meals in 2015, Protiviti will also facilitate on-site meal-packing events during several of the firm's internal training sessions, as well as its annual intern challenge/orientation in June.
In addition to Feed My Starving Children, a preliminary list of Protiviti's non-profit partners include: Ronald McDonald House, Harvester's Foodbank, City Harvest, Stop Hunger Now, Feeding Children Everywhere, Food Lifeline, and Philabundance.
