Protein by the truckload fuels hope for hungry communities
129,600 eggs donated to local Food Bank will provide 13,500 meals
GARY, Ind., June 27, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Tuesday, Dutch Farms, Inc. will donate a truckload of 10,800 dozen eggs to the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. The eggs will be distributed through the Food Bank's 120+ partner food pantries, soup kitchens, and other agencies and will provide 13,500 meals to individuals and families struggling with hunger across Lake and Porter counties.
More than 100,000 people in Lake and Porter counties—or one in six—are considered food insecure, meaning they have limited or uncertain access to nutritionally adequate food at some point during the year. The Food Bank distributes more than 4.3 million meals every year across the Region, and serves 15,000 people every month through its partner agencies and programs.
Dutch Farms, Inc. continues its commitment to support its immediate community by donating good, nutritious food to the Food Bank to help feed those in need. With a consistent goal for quality, Dutch Farms, Inc. wants to donate healthy, protein-packed dairy products to help fight hunger and meet the food insecurity need in Northwest Indiana. Since the beginning of its partnership with the Food Bank, Dutch Farms' donations have resulted in 70,500 meals across Lake and Porter counties.
"Fighting hunger is a big job, and it's one that requires the full support and partnership of the community," said Arleen Peterson, executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. "Dutch Farms is a wonderful partner of the Food Bank. They consistently step up to support our programs and services and help ensure that all of the hungry kids, adults, and seniors in our community have access to the good, protein-filled food they need."
Kevin DeVries, Vice President of Dutch Farms, Inc. and member of the board of directors at the Food Bank, wants to continue strengthening the relationship between the two organizations, especially at times throughout the year when the Food Bank has empty shelves because of minimal food donations.
