Propane Education & Research Council Launches Heating Oil Conversion Training Course
WASHINGTON, Dec. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- The use of heating oil as a primary home energy solution has declined over the past few decades, resulting in an increased demand for expertise in converting homes to alternative energy sources. As part of the comprehensive training program offered by the Propane Education & Resource Council (PERC), construction professionals can now take a free online training course, "Retrofitting Homes from Heating Oil to Propane."
"Homeowners are moving away from heating oil due to growing concerns for the environment, the costs associated with maintaining aging equipment, and the increasing availability of alternative energy sources," said Tracy Burleson, director of residential programs for PERC. "The new online training course helps construction professionals best meet the needs of homeowners looking to make the switch."
The course teaches participants about the history and reasons behind the decline of fuel oil and outlines the advantages of alternative fuel sources, such as propane. Key considerations, including environmental impact, equipment sizing, efficiency, initial cost, return on investment, and the removal of heating oil tanks and equipment, are described in the course. The course also features an analysis of electricity, ground source heat pumps, air source heat pumps, and propane.
To take the free online training course, which is approved by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the American Institute of Architects (AIA), visit www.propanetrainingacademy.com.
