Prominent M&A Attorney David Gitlin Joins Greenberg Traurig in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, May 31, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Prominent cross-border M&A attorney David Gitlin has joined the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Gitlin joins the Philadelphia office in the Corporate & Securities practice as a shareholder. He was previously a partner at Blank Rome, LLP, and the head of its Israel Practice.
Gitlin is also expected to be instrumental in the growth of Greenberg Traurig's Israel Practice and its recently established Tel Aviv office.
"Our strong U.S. platform and collaborative style, together with our offices in the Middle East, Europe, Latin America and Asia, are a good fit for both David's domestic and international practice," said Richard A. Rosenbaum, Greenberg Traurig's Chief Executive Officer.
Prior to moving to Blank Rome in 2009, Gitlin was a partner at WolfBlock LLP, where he served as chair of the Corporate & Securities Group and as a member of the firm's executive committee and also head of its Israel Practice. For more than 30 years, Gitlin has counseled foreign clients doing business in the United States and U.S. clients doing business abroad. He has structured more than 200 M&A deals, over half of which have been cross-border transactions involving leading businesses in Finland, India, Israel and Sweden, among others. His representation of U.S. clients has included the purchase or sale of businesses in more than 15 countries.
Gitlin represents both U.S. and foreign venture capital funds, and has handled numerous technology development transactions, particularly in the life sciences area. These include drug development, licensing and joint venture agreements involving biotech and pharmaceutical companies, as well as collaborations between industry and academia.
"The addition of David Gitlin is evidence of the reputation, quality and strength of our Philadelphia team and will, for the first time, give the Greenberg Traurig Philadelphia office a strong regional corporate presence," said Michael L. Lehr, a regional operating shareholder and the managing shareholder of the Philadelphia office.
"David's cross-border work, in the United States and worldwide, will add additional value to the resources we offer to clients in Philadelphia, the U.S. and Israel," said Gary Epstein, chair of Greenberg Traurig's Global Corporate & Securities Practice and co-chair of its Israel Practice. "David's arrival augments our domestic depth and provides additional critical mass to our growing Israel presence."
The firm's Israeli practice will benefit greatly from the addition of Gitlin, who has extensive experience representing Israeli companies and is fluent in Hebrew. Admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, Gitlin received his law degree from Tel Aviv University Law School and received his LL.M. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania, New York and Israel.
Gitlin is recognized by Chambers USA and as a leading M&A attorney and a leading Venture Capital attorney. In 2005, Gitlin was recognized by the mayors of Philadelphia and Tel Aviv for exceptional accomplishments in developing business opportunities for Israeli companies in the United States.
