NEW YORK, April 11, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Steven Khadavi, a leading transactional attorney and the former managing partner of Dorsey & Whitney's New York office, has joined the corporate practice of Troutman Sanders LLP in the New York office. Khadavi represents public and private companies, and their boards of directors, on complex matters, with a particular focus on corporate governance, capital markets and mergers and acquisitions — areas that align with the strengths of Troutman Sanders' expanding national corporate practice.
"Steven Khadavi is the consummate corporate attorney," said Steve Lewis, managing partner of Troutman Sanders. "His remarkable leadership, practice focus and commitment to his clients make him an outstanding addition to the firm. We are delighted that an attorney of his caliber and reputation was drawn to Troutman Sanders and look forward to what we can accomplish together on behalf of our clients as we continue to grow the firm."
Khadavi has more than two decades of experience guiding diverse clients in sophisticated transactional, corporate finance and securities law matters. This includes counseling investment banks that underwrite or facilitate a variety of financing transactions.
"Steven is a top transactional attorney whom clients trust to guide them through their most complicated M&A and capital markets transactions," said Mason Bayler, chair of the firm's Corporate department. "We look forward to working with Steven and expanding our corporate footprint in and beyond New York."
"I have known Steven for nearly two decades, having practiced law together at a prior firm. I have followed his many client and career successes over the years with much admiration. He is a terrific lawyer and an even better person. Bringing Steven and his corporate practice to our New York office is a tremendous coup for both our clients and our firm," said Craig Kline, managing partner of Troutman Sanders' New York office. "We are excited to welcome him to our growing team."
Khadavi is the seventh lateral partner to join the firm's New York office in a little over a year. The firm is focused on continuing to deepen its transactional and litigation bench in this important market with the addition of attorneys who have recognized experience helping clients to achieve their objectives in a complex business environment. Mark Mandel, a former New York chief of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Broker-Dealer Enforcement, joined the firm last month, and two IP litigators, Joseph Diamante and Charles Cantine, joined at the end of January. Jack Thomas joined with an elite litigation, insurance and reinsurance team in July, Avi Schick joined the office last May, as part of the State Attorneys General practice, and Hayden Baker joined its Capital Projects and Infrastructure practice last March.
Khadavi has been recognized by several industry authorities including Chambers USA and IFLR1000 for his corporate, M&A and capital markets work. He is active in the community, serving as vice president and board member of the Iranian American Jewish Federation of New York and board member of Friends of MadaTech - the Israel Institute of Science & Technology.
Consistently recognized as a top-tier corporate practice, Troutman Sanders regularly advises on multimillion- and multibillion-dollar transactions. In the past three years alone, the firm's corporate practice has handled more than $50 billion in capital market deals and more than $25 billion in M&A and private equity deals.
"Troutman Sanders' corporate practice is highly regarded in the industry and a good overall fit for my practice. The firm's recent growth in New York and in other key cities, including several on the West Coast, is impressive and a testament to its commitment to its clients. I look forward to working with my new colleagues," Khadavi said.
Khadavi earned his J.D. from George Washington University and his bachelor's degree in economics from Clark University.
