Prominent Canadians appointed to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada

OTTAWA, July 5, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's Environment Minister and Minister responsible for Parks Canada, the Honourable Peter Kent, today announced the appointment of Mr. Kenn Harper as the Nunavut representative to the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada (HSMBC) and the reappointments of Mr. Leonard Cusack, representative of Prince Edward Island, Mr. Lorne Wheeler, representative of Newfoundland and Labrador, and Dr. Harold D. Kalman of Vancouver, British Columbia.

"I am pleased to appoint Mr. Harper as Nunavut's representative on the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada," said Minister Kent. "His knowledge of Arctic history combined with his decades of tireless work to preserve and promote it will prove to be a tremendous asset for the Board in its work."

"The significant contributions Leonard Cusack, Lorne Wheeler and Dr. Harold Kalman have made to the Board's work during their previous terms have led to their reappointments today," said Minister Kent. "Their respective knowledge and dedication to preserving and promoting Canadian history will continue to be invaluable in their roles as Board representatives."

Established in 1919 and supported by Parks Canada, the HSMBC advises the Minister of the Environment on the designation of places, people and events of national historic significance. Together with Parks Canada, it ensures that these subjects of national historic significance are recognized appropriately, both within Canada and abroad.
