WASHINGTON, Sept. 27, 2012  /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Monday, October 1, Progressives for Immigration Reform (PFIR) will host its 3rd Annual Conference on Immigration, Conservation, and the Environment at the Kaiser Family Foundation's Barbara Jordan Conference Center.

For its largest event of the year, PFIR expects to inform and influence policymakers and members of the public on the latest and most pressing issues surrounding immigration policy and its impact on the upcoming Presidential race.  Panelists will also provide an update on PFIR's innovative Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) project, which has the potential to shape American immigration policy for decades.

The conference will consist of two panels featuring some of the most renowned names in the field including author and journalist, Dr. Margaret Orchowski of the Hispanic Outlook Magazine, Professor Tom Horton, author and contributor to the Chesapeake Bay Journal, Dr. Philip Cafaro, author and Professor of Philosophy at Colorado State University, Wildlife Biologist Leon Kolankiewicz, and Political Scientist James Gimpel of the University of Maryland, College Park. 

Topics to be discussed:

  • A comparison of the policy similarities and differences between the Presidential candidates on U.S. immigration, and how each candidate's views will reshape American immigration;
  • The importance and need for comprehensive immigration reform;
  • Forthcoming developments of an Environmental Impact Statement on U.S. Immigration Policy, and the purpose, need, and initial findings of this report.
