Professional Hair Care Veteran Robin Powell Joins the Board at Divine Skin (DSKX) and Will Head Global Development
MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Feb. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Robin Powell, a professional hair care veteran who has grown several companies over four decades of industry experience, has joined the board of directors and will head global business development at Divine Skin Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: DSKX), which markets topical treatments under the brands DS Laboratories, Sigma Skin, Polaris Research, and The Pure Guild. This is a surprising development, as Powell has come out of retirement to join the team at Divine Skin.
Powell has a long line of successful ventures in the professional hair care industry. In the early eighties, he joined Sebastian as a small family business selling a new line of salon products and Powell was instrumental in building international distribution which culminated in the early nineties in the sale of Sebastian International to Wella which later became part of Procter & Gamble.
In 1994, after the sale of Sebastian, Powell was invited by the Mascolo brothers to join TIGI. Known at the time for Toni & Guy salons and education, the Mascolos wanted to build a global professional hair care brand. Within a few years, as VP of Business Development Worldwide and a member of the TIGI board of directors, Powell propelled the TIGI Bed Head line into over one hundred countries with the eventual sale of TIGI to Unilever for more than $400 million.
Divine Skin coaxed Powell out of retirement because, according to CEO Daniel Khesin, "He came to believe that Divine Skin is pursuing the most innovative path in personal care, with products that attract repeat customers and facilitate easy entry into new markets. Robin feels that this could be his biggest venture yet.
"Robin Powell is a legend in this industry," continued Khesin. "We are already experiencing enormous growth by leveraging his resources and relationships. We are now much more efficient because Robin knows the people in each region who are the best fit for us. So he gets us on the phone with the right decision makers, and we just have to ensure them we can supply enough product. Really, it's unbelievable."
Powell said, "Divine Skin has all the right pieces in place, there is a 'wow' factor and efficacy that is simply unmatched in the industry. After getting to know the products and the team, I am completely convinced that this company will be a big success, far bigger than anything I have done in the past. I am delighted to be onboard, to be part of this."
