Professional financial coaching decreases consumer stress, survey reveals

SUGAR LAND, Texas, March 8, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- A recent survey conducted by Money Management International (MMI), the nation's largest nonprofit credit counseling agency, reveals the positive impact financial coaching and education has had on the lives of the employees of an Oregon-based company.

MMI has provided Samaritan Health Services (Samaritan), a nonprofit healthcare provider based in Corvallis, Oregon, with financial wellness programs and services through its Mapping Your Future Financial Solutions division for more than 10 years.

During the course of their ongoing partnership, MMI has provided one-on-one financial coaching to 150 Samaritan employees. Of those Samaritan employees polled, 86 percent stated that their financial stress was reduced as a result of the financial coaching and education they received. Many respondents also reported that they had achieved certain financial goals as a result of the coaching, including reducing debt (60 percent); contributing more money to a retirement plan (38 percent); improving their credit score (30 percent); and buying a home (8 percent). Samaritan employees who received financial coaching also reported paying off a total of $182,900 in debt in just the last year.
