Productive farmland in Putnam County, Ind., set for January auction
GREENCASTLE, Ind., Dec. 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 714 acres of highly productive Putnam County farmland -- including approximately 500 contiguous acres -- will sell at auction Wednesday, Jan. 15, with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company managing the sale.
"It's rare to see this much Putnam County cropland offered in a single auction, especially with this much contiguous land, so we believe it will appeal to area farmers as well as to investors," said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company. "It has very good soils -- predominantly Reesville and Ragsdale -- and will be available for the 2014 growing season."
The land is being offered in eight tracts, ranging from 25 acres to 160 acres, with all but one tract consisting primarily of tillable land. The 25-acre tract has five grain bins with updated electrical service and a 60-foot by 60-foot barn. The facilities have total storage space for approximately 52,500 bushels.
Most of the acreage is located along U.S. Highway 36 between CR 600W and CR 775W, approximately 9.5 miles northwest of Greencastle and 14 miles east of Rockville, Ind.
"The tracts will be offered in a way that permits individuals to bid on just what they need, whether that's 25 acres or a combination of tracts with a combined 614 tillable acres. There's also a nice wooded recreational tract of 38 acres on CR 775W," said Schrader.
Schrader personnel will be available to guide inspections and provide detailed information from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 21, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 4. The auction will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds in Greencastle.
