Some 4 million faulty baby seats have been recalled due to dozens of injuries. The products are sold in the U.S. at Sears, Target, Toys R Us (as well as Babies R Us), USA Babies, Walmart, and numerous other online sites and children's stores across the country. The primary function of the seat is to put babies in a sitting position before they could do so on their own.  

The announcement of the recall came from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) after at least 50 reports of infants falling from Bumbo seats experiencing injuries, which included 19 reports of skull fractures. The majority of the cases involved seats placed on elevated surfaces and an additional 34 reports have involved infant injuries when the seat was placed on the floor – 2 of those cases resulting in skull fractures.

Bumbo has reacted to the baby seat recall by offering a seat belt kit for the seats. People are urged to stop using the seats until they install a repair kit and even then to only use the seats on the floor. Infants can escape the Bumbo seat by arching their backs, rocking, or leaning forward and sideways. Infants between 3 and 10 months have suffered the majority of head injuries.
