FREMONT, Calif., July 13, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Procera Networks today announced a multi-million dollar policy enforcement and analytics deployment with a tier one APAC fixed operator. The operator is integrating Procera's policy enforcement solutions alongside a Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) solution from another vendor to deliver advanced Quality of Service (QoS) for streaming video services on their network.
The deployment leverages Procera's application awareness, specifically targeting high priority video streaming traffic to ensure customers receive the bandwidth and quality of service needed for a high Quality of Experience (QoE). The service relies on Procera's sophisticated QoS technology in PacketLogic, including Advanced Queue Management and Fair Usage solutions, to manage subscriber traffic priorities.
The QoS techniques ensure that high priority real-time streaming traffic is delivered to subscribers in a timely fashion, and non-real time traffic is given lower priority during times of congestion. Fair usage is applied to traffic during congestion based upon the service tier purchased by the subscriber (i.e. 1Mbps, 5Mbps, 10Mbps, etc) to ensure that the bandwidth is made available proportionately by service tier.
Procera's ability to classify traffic into application classes, regardless of any encryption used, enables the operator to ensure the conflict between real-time and non-real time traffic is handled smoothly during times of network congestion, and even within a single subscriber's traffic when their service link is being overloaded. In addition to Procera's standard video service signatures, the operator will be able to define their own signatures to classify their managed video offerings using Procera's powerful self-service Virtual Services signature language.
Procera will also be performing detailed analytics on the broadband network, helping the operator identify hotspots to prevent congestion. By using these tools, operators can better plan future network capacity upgrades as and when required. The analytics can provide visibility into the QoE delivered across the entire network, a specific service tier, or even to a specific application or application type, helping the operator make the right business decisions to manage CAPEX while ensuring customer satisfaction and reducing churn.
"Tier 1 operators are increasingly offering quad play services to their subscribers and therefore need intelligent policy enforcement solutions to enable service innovation," said Lyn Cantor, President and CEO at Procera Networks. "Procera's industry-leading DRDL application identification engine is a critical tool to identify encrypted applications and enforce policy to offer differentiated services to subscribers."
