Procera Networks' NAVL Engine Powers 443 Networks' Security Solutions
NAVL OEM embedded software engine delivers granular Internet Intelligence enabling superior security, filtering, application and traffic control
FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Procera Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: PKT), the global Subscriber Experience company, today announced that its Network Application Visibility Library (NAVL) has been selected by 443 Networks, a developer and distributor of security platforms, to power 443's next-generation firewall (NGFW) and application inspection solutions. Procera's NAVL engine provides greater traffic and application visibility with more depth, enabling 443 Networks to offer more granular control and improved security to their customers. 443 Networks delivers security solutions enabling security-as-a-service (SecaaS) offerings from managed service providers (MSPs), managed security service providers (MSSPs) and for on premise enterprise-grade use cases.
NGFWs are deep packet inspection (DPI) firewalls that move beyond port and protocol inspection and blocking to add application-level inspection, intrusion prevention, and bring intelligence from outside the firewall to deliver superior protection. 443 Networks uses Procera's NAVL engine to provide its MSP and MSSP clients with the most flexible and powerful platform to deliver compelling SecaaS offerings to their customers. Using these best-in-breed solutions, previously unseen malware and threats from web apps are detected and are prevented, allowing IT managers to enhance Internet security, optimize bandwidth investments and usage, and monitor network activity for abuse and potential threats.
"Firewall rules and URL categorization are no longer good enough when it comes to implementing our customers' traffic filtering policies," said Keith Glennan, CEO of 443 Networks. "Our customers need the ability to implement more insightful, more granular policies—which means that we need to be able to carry out increasingly sophisticated analysis of the traffic that is entering and leaving their networks. Procera's NAVL engine allows us to accurately identify traffic at all levels of the ISO stack so we can implement powerful traffic management policies for our customers."
"With hackers starting to use SSL and other encryption protocols as a way to hide their attacks from standard detection techniques, inspecting encrypted traffic for malware is critical," said Mike Kay, vice president of business development at Procera. "Using the NAVL embedded DPI engine, leading-edge customers like 443 Networks can perform the intrusion detection they need to provide granular visibility and control over encrypted traffic, ensuring a positive subscriber experience."
NAVL's industry leading traffic signature database is updated on an ongoing basis, allowing solution providers to keep their products current with today's evolving network landscape including malicious sites, security threats and potential sources of Internet abuse. NAVL is a next-generation DPI software engine that provides real-time, Layer-7 classification of network traffic. Running on all popular processors and operating systems, Procera's NAVL allows integrators to remain focused on their core competencies while implementing industry-leading DPI functionality in their products.
