Prime Therapeutics wins 2014 National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association Investigative Excellence Award
Teams recognized for process improvement resulting in significant savings
ST. PAUL, Minn., Dec. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Prime Therapeutics LLC (Prime) was named the winner of the 2014 National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association (NHCAA) Investigative Excellence Award. The award recognizes the company's work to develop a new process to reduce the risk of potentially fraudulent pharmacies from being admitted to Prime's network. This process has saved Prime and its clients an estimated $68 million annually while ensuring its members are getting the right medicines they need to feel better and live well.
The NHCAA offers four distinguished awards that honor effective health care fraud investigation and its impact on fraud deterrence and prevention. The Investigative Excellence Award honors an individual or a group who achieved significant results in the field of health care fraud investigations by employing innovative approaches to the investigative process. This year's winners were announced in Dallas on Nov. 19.
"This award recognizes the valuable work the audit teams at Prime are doing to reduce fraudulent activity and help keep our members safe," said Duane Barnes, chief operations officer at Prime. "I am proud of the positive impact this new process has had on our business, and for the members and clients we serve."
The updated process for adding new pharmacies to Prime's network, which was implemented in 2012, included adding a review of dispensing and ordering patterns. In the first year of implementing the new process, Prime identified and denied 81 percent of pharmacy applications within high risk fraudulent areas.
