Prime Therapeutics announces enhancement to its oncology management program
PathWare™ Decision Support Transaction Solutions guides providers in choosing evidence-based, cost-effective treatments for patients
ST. PAUL, Minn., May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Prime Therapeutics (Prime), a leading pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), announces enhanced capability to its oncology management program. Prime previously announced its plans to collaborate with two oncology management companies to offer its health plan clients options in addressing oncology management challenges that are uniquely driven by the markets it serves. Prime has engaged Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions to offer a web-based medical benefit management system that facilitates standardized care guidelines (clinical pathways) and provides physicians with decision support.
One of Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions' flagship service offerings for payers is the development of evidence-based treatment regimens, or clinical pathways, that help improve the quality and costs of care provided to patients with chronic diseases. These programs help physicians select the most cost-effective and clinically effective medications.
Prime will leverage Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions' new PathWare™ Decision Support Transaction Solutions (PathWare Solutions) platform, a medical benefit management system that makes it easier for providers, plans and PBMs to leverage clinical pathways programs to reduce the variability and costs associated with caring for patients who are managing complex diseases like cancer. The new technology will provide Prime's health plan clients additional options for sharing actionable information with physicians that can be accessed at the moment of clinical prescribing. It also offers a proactive and transparent solution for payers to manage, measure and reward physician compliance with clinical pathways for cancer care.
"Our oncology management program is designed to improve the quality and value of cancer care for patients and reduce the wide variation in current oncology practice," said Eric Elliott, president and CEO of Prime. "We are confident that Prime's clinical expertise, coupled with Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions' innovative platform, will further allow us to deliver unmatched high-quality, evidence-based solutions for our health plan clients and patients."
Prime is the first PBM to make this innovative new technology available to its health plan clients.
"PathWare Solutions represents the evolution of clinical pathways. This new tool makes it easier than ever before for physicians, payors and PBMs to work together to leverage data, information and point-of-care technology to improve the way care is delivered to patients," said Meghan FitzGerald, president of Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions. "We're proud to partner with Prime to leverage this new technology to improve the quality and costs of cancer care."
