Prime Minister-Elect of Cote d'Ivoire Seeks Support of President Obiang of Equatorial Guinea

MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, Jan. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, met yesterday with the Prime Minister-elect of the Government of Cote d'Ivoire, Guillaume Soro, to review the situation in Cote d'Ivoire.  

During the meeting, Prime Minister Soro requested the support of the Head of State of Equatorial Guinea in bringing about a democratic transition in his country, allowing the elected President, Alassane Outtara, to take office after the peaceful departure of the current president, Laurent Gbagbo.

President Obiang is expected to assume the office of President of the African Union (AU) later this month. The African Union has suspended Cote d'Ivoire from participation in AU activities and called on the current government of Cote d'Ivoire to respect the result of the elections.

In declarations to the press, Prime Minister Soro expressed his admiration for President Obiang's "leadership of the African continent, as well as the intelligence and experience with which he has led his country, which can be seen in the stability, peace and development that are lived currently in Equatorial Guinea".

Guillaume Soro has visited different African states to seek diplomatic support from the main leaders of the continent.
