Price Reduced for Scranton National Guard Armory
Bidding to open at $100,000 minimum, stay on market for 30 days
HARRISBURG, June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of General Services (DGS) today announced that the minimum acceptable bid to purchase the Scranton National Guard Armory, also known as the Watres Armory, has been reduced to $100,000.
DGS has also shortened the length of time the property will be on the market to 30 days. Interested bidders must respond no later than 3 p.m. on July 8, 2014.
The reduced price and shortened bid period are part of the DGS Bureau of Real Estate's efforts to aggressively sell surplus property. The department's efforts are all part of an approach to generate revenue through the sale of properties no longer used by the commonwealth and place them back onto local tax rolls where they can contribute to the local economy.
The Scranton National Guard Armory is located at 900 Adams Avenue, Scranton, Lackawanna County. The more than 102,000 square foot facility is situated on 1.5 acres of land.
The armory is no longer in use by the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs, which has already moved personnel into a newer readiness center. The property will be sold via sealed competitive bid at the discounted price with no requirement for the purchaser to preserve the historical exteriors of the facilities. Bid terms can be found in in the bid package online.
