WASHINGTON, May 23, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) announced today that Governor Mitt Romney, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, will address the nation's Latino leadership at the organization's 29th Annual Conference on Thursday, June 21, in Orlando, Florida.
"The Latino electorate has become a permanent fixture on the political landscape of this country," said Sylvia R. Garcia, NALEO President. "With the election nearing, the NALEO membership is looking forward to the opportunity to learn more about Governor Mitt Romney and his position on issues of importance to our constituents and the Latino community."
The appearance will occur during a three-day convention of more than 1,000 Latino public officials and their supporters working at all levels of government in communities across the nation. Conference participants will join political and policy leaders for panel discussions on education, health, financial empowerment, broadband adoption and the growing clout of Latino voters in American politics.
"We are grateful that Governor Mitt Romney has accepted our invitation to join us and address the nation's Hispanic leadership at our annual conference next month," said Juan C. Zapata, Chairman of the NALEO Educational Fund. "Hispanic officials are eager to hear more about the Governor's plans for the country and his thoughts on the Hispanic community's aspirations and concerns."
The NALEO 29th Annual Conference will take place less than four months before Latino voters are expected to turn out in record numbers for the November elections, with at least 12.2 million casting ballots, according to projections released by the NALEO Educational Fund. Latinos – now one of out every six Americans – are set to exhibit extraordinary influence at the polls this year, likely supplying the margin of victory in several states and contests.
